Give up, give over (Words/Music - Justin Lavash) You’re getting all fired up, man it’s Saturday night I wish you’d just give it a rest Shouldn’t in the dark, come on, step into the light, now Get it off your chest Give it up, give over Give up. give over You got me sucking on a lemon, trying to see the point Can anybody tell me why? They’re trying to put the squeeze on every music joint but the police sirens wail - into the night Give it up, give over Give up. give over Ah, you’ve got one foot in the groove, the other’s in your mouth It ain’t a pretty sight Shooting from the hip and giving it the lip. but it’s all going on on a Saturday night Give it up, give over Give up. give over

The Swizz 03:25
The Swizz (words/music - Justin Lavash) I'm a real high-flyer of some intelligence I'm uncommonly gifted in common sense At school they said I was a child prodigy Ol' Al Einstein got nothing on me I'm a man of letters Got a genious mind Girl, the sun shines out of my behind Got a PHD, got a high IQ But God knows girl, I've been a fool for you God knows girl, I've been a fool for you God knows girl, I've been a fool for you Now I don't mess with the Hoi Poloi I got too much style to be your whipping boy You pass for class, but no cigar To me you're just another petite fille a papa I'm a man of letters (etc.) Well, you reeled me in a like a fish on a hook with your little girl smile and your self-help book and God knows girl, I towed the line Walked broken glass just to make you mine And all those long love letters I wrote The only thing you read was my horrorscope It seemed so long I was under your curse but I was the prick who made the bubble burst I'm a man of letters (etc.)
3.
Brick by Brick - (Words and Music - Justin Lavash) Brick by brick those walls come tumbling down Blow by blow this show rolls into town Hour by hour it's getting closer Can you feel it? Yes sir? No sir? Brick by brick Blow by blow Hour by hour It's coming home Inch by inch can you feel it coming home? It's such a cynch, you got to give your dog a bone So stop your fighting and your lying and your cheating Coz history just stopped repeating Brick by brick Blow by blow Hour by hour It's coming home Man, how those horns did surely blow Blew down those walls of Jericho Now I don't hold with all that slaying But this was the tune that they were playing Brick by brick Blow by blow Week by week Month by month It's coming home Day by day Town by town It's coming home Week by week Blow by blow Day by day Coming home Hour by hour It's coming home

Hammerblow 03:43
Hammerblow (words/music- Justin Lavash) I’m telling myself it’s gonna be slow to really know you’re not around I’m telling myself to forgive myself but I know I probably let you down You said I sometimes pushed too far I know I probably broke your heart I guess I tried to prove myself but I proved myself a little much too hard And I know that’s just the way it is I know that’s just the way it goes They say that’s just the way of things but it hits me harder than a hammer blow I gathered up the things you loved And I held them to me like a child I’ll keep them here; they’re safe with me They make me think it’s not goodbye And I shout it out on drunken nights How dare you have the nerve to leave? You come back here, coz I’m not done I’m sick with all this mixed up grief And I know that’s just the way it is I know that’s just the way it goes They say that’s just the way it is but it hits me harder than a hammer blow You showed me beauty in the darkest night In the whistle of the London train and I think of them when I think of you but they won’t be the same again Coz I heard you in the dead of night reciting lines I did not know And I wish I could have held your hand I think you had some place to go And I wish I could have held your hand I hope you know you weren’t alone And I wish I could have said goodbye It hits me harder than a hammer blow

The sky is turning black (Words/Music - Justin Lavash) Sweet Jesus, is it time to raise the flag? Is it time to fight the enemy within? Should I learn my national anthem, salute a portrait of the Queen? Should I offer up a prayer to God, say, "Deliver us of our sins"? Is it through fear they sound the horn, they bang the drum? Is it through hate they plant a bomb and detonate? Can freedom be a battle cry? Can it be given to someone? Can it dry a mother's tears When they're burying her son? Is there really heaven, and really hell? Is there really good and bad? Is your mind starting to ache through all the lies that you've been fed? Are you reaching for the Aspirin; is it for the Mogadon? Are you reaching for your bible? Are you reaching for your gun? Are you reaching for an answer? Do you think that there is one? (solo) Can you hear the drum - it's beating out the time. Can you see the train - it's rolling down the track. I thought I saw the sun break through the clouds the other day. But now it seems the sky is turning black.

Long way up, short step down (words/music - Justin Lavash) I was born with nothing I'll take nothing when I go 'twas the midwife's slap put a howl into my throat and I crawled on all fours and I'll crawl into the grave I'll crawl up the ladder to the pearly gates It's been a long way up It's been a free-for-all, a jamboree jumping up and down on the necromancer's knee pulling out the pins from a voodoo doll staring at the ceiling while you're going up the wall it's been a long way up but it sure seems a short step down It's been a hunt and gather, been a slash and burn it's been don't pass go, it's been miss a turn it's been back to front, back to back staring out the cage with a monkey on your back it's been a long way up but it sure seems a short step down Someone's got the dollars but no-one's got the sense and we're all overcome with indifference Hell for leather at snail's pace running out of patience with the human race it's been a long way up but it sure seems a short step down [opional] Push and shove got my back to the wall I've had enough, I'm sick of it all Push and shove got my back to the wall I've had enough, I'm sick of it all it's been a long way up but it sure seems a short step down

EZ in CZ 04:41
EZ in CZ (words/music - Justin Lavash) Ain't easy in CZ, well the forgotten heart of Europe has a very weird history - Hapsburgs and Prussians and Russians. Everybody wants a piece including yours truly. Ain't easy in CZ - 40 years of Stalinism, couldn't get a visa to leave, repression of expression, show trials, subjugation, collaboration and FEAR of the secret police. Ain't EZ in CZ, no. It ain't easy in A,B,CZ. It ain't easy in CZ - you just try saying "T¯i sta t¯icet t¯i st¯Ìbrn˝ch st¯ÌkaËek" Ain't easy in CZ, vÌm, vÌö, vÌ, vÌme, vÌte, rozumÌte? Ano my rozumÌme and yes is no, but you know. Don't you know - I love this country. Ain't easy, you know it ain't easy. It ain't easy but I'm holding on for you. It ain't easy, since when was it easy? It ain't easy but I'm holding on for you. Ain't easy in CZ, none of this did much as such for dignity or self esteem. Connivance and collusion and compliance with authority, The Nazis murdered millions. Bolsheviks just picked it clean. Forgetting was necessity, a hole in the memory. Ain't easy in CZ, well the cold war saw a thaw, a sort of momentary grip-release and Havel and the hopefuls had the country going west not east. He said"Pravda a l·ska zvÌtÏzÌ nad lûÌ a nen·vistÌ". Ain't easy in CZ - good people working hard trying to make ends meet, lucky with 3000 a week. trying to dodge the pokuty. NechcÌ nechcÌ exekucÌ! Gets sleazy in CZ, palms get greasy in CZ, we've got cartels, bordels, pÌko and monopolies, Zeman's brand of bigotry, ex-Commie bosses and police, but don't you know - I LOVE this country. I was trying to keep my head in CZ, got, wed, was trying to stay ahead, got misled, got bled, underfed, now I can't get out of bed. They put kmÌn in their bread, but I liked my chleba tekutÌ - in CZ. Feeling like a modern day John Dee in CZ, and Kafka crowed that this might happen. He said, "Prag l‰sst nicht los. Dieses M¸tterchen hat Krallen". Ain't easy in CZ. Just go and ask the Sinti. Try and find a refugee. Look at HlavnÌ N·draûÌ. What is it here with memory? Have we lost our sense of history? »echio! »echio! I repeat, I repeat: Pravda a l·ska zvÌtÏzÌ nad lûÌ a nen·vistÌ. There's a magic in CZ that runs deeper than a well, deeper than the water that courses underneath your feet. And there's a beauty in CZ - the pride of a culture that survived the worst of recent history, and this country's been good to me, but it ain't easy in CZ.

When We Came to Dover (Words/Music - Justin Lavash) Well they're coming down You can feel it on the underground On the edge of town They're closing all the factories closing all the factories down I've got a girl back home She said she's going to wait for me And I've been saving hard Enough to start a family Enough to start a family But she told my brother She'd found someone new Though she loves me still And if that girl don't break my heart I know that nothing will Well, where I come from It's just friends and family But in this big old town It's just money, man Money and misery And when we came to Dover it was raining hard God knows, it's raining still And if that girl don't go and break my heart I know that nothing will (break) And they told me tomorrow They're going to move me on Well they can move me where they will Coz if that girl don't and break my heart I know that nothing will

If you weren't my friend (words/music - Justin Lavash) If you weren't my friend I'd wallow in self pity and do a tour of bars I'd tell a sorry tale If you weren't my friend I would howl in sorrow Like all those dogs you see so sad chained to supermarket walls If you weren't my friend there would be no compass it would all wind down there would be no point If you weren't my friend I would never see - see you in your children who are so dear to me People come and go history keeps changing we've both seen highs and lows we never tire of complaining To the bitter end that's where I would follow I'll walk with you my friend until the bitter end until the bitter end

That's how we write it (words/music - Justin Lavash) We squirm round like rats in a bag busting for the bottleneck sniffing out the cracks that's how we write it that's how we write it Well, hey there, Jack, it's you or me so here comes the blade - don't take it personally that's how we write it that's how we write it You get out and I'm gonna drag you back down I get out - you think I'm gonna stay in this town? No, I'll be hanging out with the country club boys sipping pina coladas while you sweat it in the noise coz that's how we write it that's how we write it Ain't there always one thing that gets in the way? Here's another hurdle; here's another bill to pay What you gonna do? Roll over and die? If I worry 'bout you I gotta worry 'bout the next guy You get out and I'm gonna drag you back down I get out - you think I'm gonna stay in this town? Well we aim a little high and then we stoop a little low sometimes I wonder when this thing is gonna blow but that's how we write it that's how we write it From the bottom to top that's all I see as the poor paw through the trash so diligently every clan's got it's own hierachy coz that's how we write it that's how we write it

Love turns out alright (words/music - Justin Lavash) Some they walk the dotted line and they drag themselves to work on time and they greet their fellows with a smile and they drink from half-filled cups of wine but not I - no, it's never really been my style Others try to break your will sneaking fingers in the till cheat their way out of a deal they'll try to wear you down until you cry - you'll wanna blow 'em up with dynamite And some will let you skim the cream and some will help you build your dream and some will change your social scene and some can tell you when you tell a lie But life - life turns out alright And love, can play out much the same Some will treat it like a game But they will only bring you pain while others will sweeten up your night - which is usually alright And there'll be those who you will hurt whose love you never quite return whose love you never quite deserved you take it though you know that it ain't right - but it doesn't keep you up at night But one day love will stop you in your tracks and right then you'll know there'll be no turning back when love comes in she's got a terrible knack of breaking in your heart from the inside - but love...love turns out alright Distance measures out in miles "likes" in yellow smiley smiles desire by where you rest your eye but love and hate will not be quantified - sometimes it's hard to choose a side For love's a journey we must take if not our lonely hearts would break which anyway might be the case you pays your money and you takes your ride - it can leave you feeling petrified And love can make you feel about ten feet tall and love can make you go and bang your head against the wall and love can make you feel that there's no sense in it all but love can make you feel, and that's the deal though love is blind she'll be your guide and love turns out alright (and then you die)

Slide 04:01
Slide (Words/music - Justin Lavash) Hey you with the hollow eyes Don't I know your name? Do you remember mine? Won't you slide with me? I remember when we were kids I still remember all the slides we slid inside of me Slide with me Hey sweetheart take my hand I think we got ourselves a brand new plan Won't you slide with me? Slide down streets of ice and snow Somewhere there's a houseband playing low Abide with me Slide with me Slide with me Hey you in the Old Square Mile Has the penny dropped? Is it hard to smile? Won't you slide with me? Slide to the slums There's a place for you Coz everybody there is sliding too Ride with me Slide with me Hey there you with your backs to the wall If we slide together will the whole thing fall? Won't you slide with me? Coz I've been walking 'round with my head in a noose but I'm an old-fashioned fool What's your excuse? Come on and slide with me Slide with me
14.
This is a song (words/music - Justin Lavash) They chained me down and they forced me to stay they took my home and my horses away but they love to hear (all that they left me's) this old beat-guitar so this is a song from far far away They gave me a shovel and said dig up the road they took my voice and said do what you're told and they call me a thief and it's probably true so this is a song that I stole for you Oooh I remember moonlight in your eyes my child bride we danced till sunrise and one day they tell me it all could change if I mend my ways if I play the game have faith in the system you don't have to be poor but that's just a song we've all heard before and though they may tell you I don't play the game that my horses are wild and my children the same
15.
Fits 'n' starts (Words/Music - Justin Lavash) I know I'm a son of a gun and I keep on making waves when I should be having fun but I think it's gonna be OK I know that it's fits and starts Keep hold of my hand I think it's gonna be OK We got a ticket to a sunny day gonna be fireworks at night Tell me don't it put a smile on your face Well I think it's gonna be... it's gonna be alright I know it's been a bumpy ride but I think we're gonna make it to the other side I think it's gonna be OK I know that it takes so long when you're riding up the hill with the handbrake on but I think it's gonna be OK We got a long shot on a one-horse race and I think I see it coming in clean Tell me don't it put a smile on your face Do you know what I mean? Do you know what I mean? Ain't got a penny for to scratch my ass Ain't got nothing but buttons and beans Man you either cry or laugh Do you know what I mean? Do you know what I mean? I know that it's all fucked up and the planet is dying and the Government's corrupt but I think it's gonna be OK
